VE Day Memory Lane

When the unconditional surrender signed by Germany came into force on May 8, 1945, it marked the official end of a long and bitter ordeal for Britain and her allies.
Despite the devastation caused and the fact Japan had yet to be defeated, Victory In Europe Day offered a moment of hope for the future. 

In his radio broadcast from 10 Downing Street that day, Prime Minister Winston Churchill told the nation  “We may allow ourselves a brief period of rejoicing.” Decades later we still celebrate the spirit and sacrifice of a generation on VE Day.
